Bangkok with IJM
May 2024 - Bangkok, Thailand
International Justice Mission (“IJM “) is a global organization that protects people in poverty from violence by rescuing victims, bringing criminals to justice, restoring survivors to safety and strength, and helping local law enforcement build a safe future that lasts.
Bill Lui traveled to an IJM field office in Bangkok to engage directly with the critical issues of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. His purpose was to witness firsthand the life-changing impacts of IJM's work, particularly in addressing Forced Labour Slavery and Forced Scamming, which affect millions globally.
By participating in this Vision Trip, Bill aimed to deepen his understanding of the systemic changes being implemented by IJM in collaboration with local NGOs, government partners, and survivor leaders. He sought to connect with those on the front lines of this mission, learn about innovative initiatives strengthening justice systems, and encourage local staff and survivors in their journeys toward recovery and advocacy.
Ultimately, Bill's goal was to return inspired and equipped to contribute his skills and passion to the fight against violence and injustice, aligning with IJM’s mission to protect the most vulnerable and promote lasting change in communities affected by these issues.
Consider these follow-up actions to support IJM’s mission:
Be Informed and Aware: Come to regular IJM information and prayer sessions where frontline workers will share their stories of this global problem and the work IJM is doing to rescue, restore and reclaim victims of violence and injustice. Stay informed about trends and developments in the field of human trafficking and modern slavery by attending workshops, webinars, or conferences.
Engage in Advocacy: Learn of the IJM advocacy for policies that combat human trafficking and modern slavery in order to bring awareness to your network. Support survivor leaders in their advocacy efforts, helping to amplify their voices and experiences.
Fundraising Initiatives: Organize or participate in fundraising events to support IJM’s ongoing programs, ensuring financial resources are available for their initiatives.
Volunteer Locally: Explore opportunities to volunteer with the local IJM office or a field office supporting trafficked survivors or victims of violence. Offer your professional skills (e.g., legal, social work, supply chain management) to IJM or partner organizations to enhance their operational effectiveness.
Connect with Others: Host informational sessions or discussions to educate friends, family, and colleagues about modern slavery and how they can help. Maintain connections with IJM staff and other information session participants to stay updated on future opportunities and initiatives to support the mission.
Regular Donations: Consider setting up a regular donation to IJM to provide ongoing support for their programs and initiatives (online donations: https://ijmhk.org/en/).
These actions will contribute meaningfully to the fight against modern slavery and human trafficking.
