How is Gashora Girls Academy shaping the future?
Embraces Christian values…
What challenges do they face?
The average age in Rwanda is just 19, which underscores the importance of education in shaping the country’s future. Many of Gashora's graduates go on to attend prestigious universities in the United States on full scholarships and around the world, representing the aspirations of a nation eager to move forward. Visitors are inspired by the students’ passion for their academic interests and their ambitious dreams for the future.
At the helm of Gashora is Atete Rugege, the Head of School, whose leadership reflects a profound commitment to each student’s success. While the academy is not explicitly a Christian institution, Rugege embodies the love and care characteristic of Christian values, fostering an environment where students feel supported. One student leader even shared her experiences leading Bible studies and organizing Sunday services, emphasizing the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ in this community that reflects the love of God.
Despite its successes, Gashora Girls Academy faces several challenges. The school is in need of mentors, recycled musical instruments, and connections to university admissions offices, particularly in Hong Kong. Additionally, there is a pressing need for books for the library, devotional materials, and funding for scholarships. Capital projects, such as upgrading the library and building onsite staff quarters, are also essential for enhancing the learning environment.
At Gashora Girls Academy, the brightest minds of Rwanda are provided with opportunities to learn, grow, and lead — both inside and outside the classroom. These girls are becoming the future change-makers that the world needs.
